One of the main Vegas casinos - the Plaza - has partnered with William Hill Ltd to bring sports betting fans an updated sportsbook. The William Hill Race & Sports Book replaces the original Plaza sportsbook which had operated at the Plaza since 2013. The new remodeled facility brings the latest in 21st century on-site sports betting technology to Vegas.

Innovations

The Race & Sports Book will offer bettors access to William Hill’s kiosks, INPlay wagering menu and mobile app along with other dining and entertainment options.

At the sportsbook opening Asher, Jossel and former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman lit up the 80 inch screen -- Downtown Las Vegas’ largest seamless HD video wall. The dramatic video wall measures 5 feet tall by 16.5 feet wide. Viewers are treated to an incredible viewing area of more than 80 square feet.

As part of the opening Goodman placed the ceremonial first bet in the new book -- a $100 charity 3-team parlay consisting of Seattle (+6), the Saints (-13.5) and Kansas City (-6.5). Goodman had placed the first sports bet in the Plaza’s original sportsbook in 2013.

Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the Plaza Hotel & Casino spoke. “The Plaza continues to enhance its casino offerings, and we are excited to offer such a dramatically new way to watch and bet on sports in downtown Las Vegas. The immense HD video wall is obviously the premier element of the new sports book, but guests also will enjoy the updated look and feel of the space, where they can relax and have fun.”

William Hill

William Hill is a UK-based company that has been operating betting operations since 1934.  Until May 2018 the company’s operations were mainly in the UK. At that time the U.S. legalized sports betting and since that time William Hill has been expanding rapidly into American markets.  William Hill’s American focus is on mobile and retail operations in states where sports betting and/or online betting has been legalized. Currently, the majority of William Hill’s operations are in New Jersey and Nevada. However, the company is attempting to expand into other states that have legalized sports betting in their jurisdictions.

William Hill’s operations in Nevada include 107 race and sportsbooks. It is the leading mobile sports betting app in that state and also acts as the risk manager for the Nevada State lottery. The new Plaza’s William Hill Race & Sports Book is the largest sportsbook in downtown Las Vegas. The site features 75 viewing screens, 37 betting carrels, 25 tables, a Pop Up Pizza and a nearby casino bar. It is located near the South Tower elevator lobby.

The Plaza’s sportsbook offers a wide range of betting options plus multiple parlay cards for dozens of sporting events including Amercan football, European football, college basketball and baseball,  baseball, golf, tennis, pro basketball, boxing, Ultimate Fighting, hockey, auto racing and more. There’s a William Hill sports betting app for mobile users plus self-service wagering kiosks.

Betting types include parlays, prop bets, futures and teasers plus daily lines (straight bets, money lines and totals). For those who want to wager on horse racing there’s daily pari-mutuel wagering on both day and night  tracks along with a daily Twin Quinella and future odds on major horse racing events.

The sportsbook will be open at the Plaza Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30a.m. to 9:00p.m, Fridays till 10:00p.m. and on weekends from 8:00a.m. to 10:00p.m.

Opening Ceremony

At the opening of the new sportsbook Asher noted that Plaza visitors will have access to everything that a 21st century sportsbook can offer. That includes a high tech mobile app, the full InPlay wagering menu and kiosks. Asher spoke at the ceremony, saying, “Since its opening in 1975, the Race & Sports Book at the Plaza has become a historic landmark as the longest continuously operating sports book in Las Vegas. When William Hill took over operations in 2012, we wanted to provide the best race and sports experience to bettors and have worked alongside our partners at the Plaza to ensure that holds true today. These improvements and updates cement the Plaza as one of the best places to watch a game Downtown.”

Plaza Hotel visitors will also have access to all of the other Plaza gaming amenities including classic card and table games, modern 3D slots, penny slots and high betting machines. The Plaza also features the only single 0 roulette table in downtown Las Vegas.
