Over the past few years both console and PC games have shown steady growth. In 2018 console games are expected to generate 34.6 billion (25% of the market) while PC gaming will generate $32.9 billion, a 24% market share.
The global games market is likely to grow to $180.1 billion by 2021 which represents a CAGR of +10.3% over 2017. In 2012 the global games market revenues were $70.6 billion, putting the 10-year CAGR (2012 – 2017) for the market at +11.0%. Analysts say that its remarkable that the market has maintained a double-digit growth rate for 10 years.

The increase can be attributed mostly to mobile which should reach $9.7 billion ($44.7 billion) this year.
APAC nations drive the global games industry growth. The number of smartphone users in emerging markets (i.e. Southeast Asia and India) is growing exponentially. At the same time established markets like China and Japan show a great willingness to spend money on mobile games.
The second-largest growth region is North America. North American estimated revenues show a year-on-year increase of +10.0% which is projected to reach $32.7 billion at the end of 2018,. Most of this growth will come from smartphone gaming but console gaming also fuels growth. \
In Europe, the Middle East and Africa mobile gamers seem less willing to on games but the steadily growing smartphone population in the Middle East and Africa may change this demographic and fuel an upsurge in revenues in the near future.
In Latin America, game revenues grew to $5.0 billion in 2017 and the projection is for a further increase in 2018.
