After the chicks’ births, the fathers and mothers take turns caring for the babies, with the “non-custodial” parent taking the time to go off on feeding trips.
- The image of penguins surviving in extreme cold are those of the Emperor Penguins who breed during the Antarctic winter. They survive thanks to their thick layer of blubber and dense feathers which provide insulation.
- Penguins are flightless birds, but at one time, they could. Over time, their bodies adapted to water and they began to prefer that mode of movement, which eventually made their wings useless.
